Builders
Ambitious projects call for unusual measures. In order to implement a natural gas pipeline project of this magnitude, WINGAS GmbH & Co. KG and E.ON Ruhrgas AG have formed a joint ownership association.
WINGAS. More energy – together
WINGAS GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1993 as a joint venture of Wintershall, Germa-ny’s largest crude oil and natural gas producer, and Russia’s OAO Gazprom, the world’s largest producer of natural gas. The successful joint venture based in Kassel trades and markets natural gas and is also active in natural gas storage. Its customers include public utilities, regional gas suppliers, industrial facilities and power stations. WINGAS is active in Germany, Belgium, France, the UK, Austria, the Czech Republic and Denmark.
As the transmission system operator of OPAL and NEL, OPAL NEL TRANSPORT GmbH is responsible for the implementation of the gas pipelines project. Based in Kassel, the company is part of the WINGAS Group, which, in addition to the natural gas supplier WINGAS, also includes WINGAS TRANSPORT GmbH & Co. KG. WINGAS TRANSPORT already operates a gas pipeline network more than 2,000 km long across Germany with nine natural gas compressor stations. The aims is to connect the gas pipe-lines planned by OPAL NEL TRANSPORT to the gas pipeline network of WINGAS TRANSPORT GmbH & Co. KG
Gasunie: Gas transport in Europe
N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie based in Groningen is a gas infrastructure and transport com-pany. The company’s network in the Netherlands and northern Germany ranks among the largest high pressure gas pipeline grids in Europe, consisting of over 15,000 kilometers of pipeline. The annual gas throughput totals approximately 125 billion cubic meters. Gasunie offers safe and reliable gas transports to the Netherlands, Germany and Europe which are carried out in an efficient, profitable and sustainable way.
Fluxys G
As a transmission infrastructure company operating on the North-Western European natural gas market, Fluxys G contributes to the enhancement of security of supply and the well-functioning of the market by promoting cross-border natural gas flows and transfers in that region.
In Belgium, Fluxys G builds and operates infrastructure for natural gas transmission, natural gas storage and terminalling of liquefied natural gas. To that effect, Fluxys and Fluxys LNG are appointed as independent system operators in Belgium. In view of their activities of general economic interest, both companies aim to set competitive tariffs and reinforce the role of the Fluxys grid as a natural gas crossroads with a view to safeguarding security of supply and improving the functioning of the market.
To foster the integration of the North-Western European natural gas market, Fluxys G develops a profitable set of stakes in and industrial partnerships with companies in the business of natural gas transmission and storage, terminalling of liquefied natural gas and spot market facilitation.
Safety, efficiency, sustainability and profitability are at the centre of our approach.
E.ON Ruhrgas AG – Shaping the future with energy
In its over 80-year history, E.ON Ruhrgas AG has developed from a regional distributor to an international gas company. It is a member of the E.ON Group – the world’s largest pri-vately owned power and gas company – with overall responsibility for the pan-European gas business. E.ON Ruhrgas is the largest foreign shareholder of Russia’s OAO Gazprom.
Lubmin-Brandov Gastransportgesellschaft mbH will be responsible for marketing the capacities of OPAL and NEL in accordance with the co-ownership share of E.ON Ruhrgas. It is part of the E.ON Ruhrgas subgroup of companies which also includes Open Grid Europe. The latter has a pipeline system stretching over 12,000 kilometers and is Germany’s leading natural gas transmission company. There are also plans to connect the gas pipeline network of EGT via the Nord Stream connecting pipelines, which would enable other neighboring countries to be reached.
